Being very interested in history and culture one of my favourite activites when travelling is visiting buildings, monuments, etc. - it is very different reading about them and actually experiencing them. They can be very old or quite new - most important is it that they have played an important part in the lives of the people constructing them, using them, conquering them and/or destroying them.

I also find it interesting to see how houses around the world are built in very different ways and styles for practical and/or cosmetic reasons - and how some people/cultures still get the most out of their limited resources when doing so.
